Center scholar John Dunne is working on a project tentatively titled, Understanding Mindfulness: An Exploration of Buddhist Contemplative Practice. This book is conceived as a study of meditation practice inspired by the emergence of contemporary modes of mindfulness practice and their sometimes controversial relationship to classical Buddhist theory and practice.

Key themes include:

  • Divergent Buddhist models of mind and its dysfunction
  • The role of conceptuality and affect in contemplative practice
  • Competing interpretations of mindfulness that emerge from dualistic and nondual contexts
  • Implications of the nondual approach for contemporary clinical applications
