Securing research funding is always welcome news, but this one came with a unique twist.
The Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin–Madison has received a grant from the Dalai Lama’s personal trust to further its research mission. The $50,000 grant is “to support the Center in researching healthy qualities of mind like kindness and compassion,” according to the grant agreement.
“This was a completely unexpected and unsolicited gift, and we are deeply honored that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is so supportive of our work,” says Richard Davidson, Center director and professor of psychology and psychiatry at UW–Madison.
